Time Management Writing

I never realized how time consuming writing can be until I started working on my own book. Then reality set in. I get impatient sometimes staring at the computer screen, calculating how much more I need to get written. Blogs are no problem. It only takes a two or three paragraphs to make my point, then click “Publish” and I’m done. Writing a book is like driving down a never ending highway for me. I’m like the 5 year old in the back seat of the car asking “Are we there yet?”. I’ve had to change my style a bit throughout this project. I’ve crammed a few days, but that doesn’t work for me. I’m amazed at writers who have the stamina to write from morning until evening.

One tool I wouldn’t want to be without is my Alpha Smart Dana. This thing is about as old school as you can get. No fancy color graphics; just black and white text. Yeah, I know it’s boring but it gets the job done. The Alpha Word program syncs easily with my computer, so I can transfer everything I’ve written to MS Word by hooking in a USB cable and punching a the “send” key.

The best part about this little device is it’s battery life.It can run 25 hours straight without needing a charge, so I can take it just about anywhere I need to and not worry about running out of juice. You don’t have to wait on this little device to load up either. The screen comes up the second you turn it on and you can go straight to work right where you left off. It’s a real time saver. This helps when when I’ve only got a short amount of time and need to get a page or two written quickly.

The older I get, the more concerned I get at the time I might be wasting. Anything that will help me fill in those gaps, is well worth it to me.
